Who We Are
The Mamook Activity Center was created in 1985 to provide meaningful and enriching vocational engagement for members of our community who have limited funding and opportunities to fulfill their need for vocational expression. At L'Arche we respect the biblical roots of the value of work. We see that work affirms the dignity of the person. Located in the basement of one of our Capitol Hill homes, the main work of the activity center is the production of the distinctive L'Arche candles.
What We DoMembers of Mamook Activity Center find meaningful work through volunteering in the wider Seattle Community, public speaking, and contributing to the L'Arche community by assisting with errands. Members express their creativity by making handmade L'Arche candles and cards in the activity center. We can also be seen exploring the city during fun and enriching outings.

About Our CandlesEvery one of our unique candles is handmade in Mamook Activity Center by members of our community. Everyone works together as a team, each contributing their individual skills to create beautiful candles.
Our candles are made out of recycled wax donated to us by churches and friends of L'Arche. Most of our candles are sold at craft fairs or bazars; however, we also sell them directly from our workshop. We even take special orders, for any occasion. |
